Let Reading be your Resolution for the year 2010!

3rd DEC starting

And 2010 has already sat on the couch relaxing and enjoying the fresh and new-new feeling. But are you feeling the same? Or is it just another bunch of hours, days and months for you? It shouldn’t be ideally. Though the days are going to come and go in a similar pattern, we need to do something new, something good that will add value to your living and keep your mind healthy and renewed each day.

One easy way is to read books. Books can do miracles. They can bring smile to your face, make you feel much contended, help you overlook trivial difficulties, bring tears of joy and take your mind on a long journey where its altogether a whole new world .

Many of you might have thought of “start reading a book“, “will read a book a month”, dwindling down to “few books a year” and such unfulfilled resolutions many a times. But what it takes to fulfill them.??? A strong willful mind will be a vague & unsaticfactory answer for many. You should simply start visiting stores, browsing through sites to just have a look at new releases, think of first getting your hands on it (instead of thinking of a treat you could have with that money.). Mind it, a tasty treat, a joyful trip, a beautiful present can all be much worthy for you but only for a moment. But a book can guide you, make you feel the same and be with you all throughout your life.

So, no second thoughts!!! Later just think of the most cherished and relaxed time you like. Is it late mornings, late evenings, or late nights…all perfect for a book read!!!? Pick out that newly purchased or any old unread book you have and flip through its pages in between sips of coffee. There you go. Its simple. If you really get interested, you will not leave it unfinished.

So, this year, let you be a proud reader and make your life more fulfilling than ever!!!

woman reading

It’s winter, a perfect time to get cozy in your quilts and flip through some interesting books. A time for little self indulgence. In the list given below, some of the novels are light and perfect while others are deeper and thought-provoking. All of the novels, however, will leave the reader satisfied. Not all of these reads have been on best-seller lists or are even widely known, but they are nonetheless more than worthy of a long-overdue recognition.

  1. The End of East (Jen Sookfong Lee) - An empowering and bittersweet novel revolving around three-generations of a Chinese-Canadian family and their toils in building a life, a living, and themselves.
  2. One Dance in Paris (Julia Holden) - An enchanting and hopeful novel that follows one women in her search for who her little-known-about mother really was, and ultimately, who she truly is, herself.
  3. Summer at Tiffany (Marjorie Hart) - A captivating little read that’s light and oh-so-glamorous! It follows in the footsteps of one gal, her best friend, and their unforgettable summer of 1945, when the world was changing along with their lives.
  4. Geisha, a Life (Mineko Iwasaki) - This is the true book if you’re looking for a bittersweet, sentimental, and riveting memoir of one of Japan’s past-time geishas.
  5. Social Crimes (Jane Hitchcock) - A cleverly devised mystery with a glamorous and savvy protagonist.
  6. Confessions of a Werewolf Supermodel (Ronda Thompson) - A witty and light read that incorporates fashion, murder, sleuthing, and the classic concept of the ugly duckling.
  7. The Good Earth (Pearl S. Buck) - It follows Wang Lung and his family through their toils, mistakes, and redemptions, all to a bittersweet ending sure to leave readers craving more, yet oddly satisfied.
  8. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (Lisa See) - Inspiration and life lessons take the form of this exotic novel set in China from eras past (19th century).
  9. The Right Address (Carrie Karasyov & Jill Kargman) - A witty, often hilarious, but, most significantly, truthful, novel that goes deep into the heart of Manhattan elite society — one that proves to be far fiercer and more competitive than its smooth and glamorous facade ever led on.
  10. The Little Lady Agency (Hester Browne) - Flirty and light, this fun little read about one woman’s success in an unlikely career as an escort, is sure to win a top spot on your bookshelf.

Silent Rules to help you decide how to sell books online!

sell used books

1. Avoid books with more than one copyright date or evidence of additional printings.

2. Avoid book club editions (Book-Of-The-Month Club, Literary Guild, etc.)

3. A book with a dust jacket is much better than the same title without one (though it should be noted that some books are issued without them). Also, dust jackets that have survived 50 years or more are generally scarce.

4. A heavy book or one with a dense feel to it is likely to have more value than a light one.

5. A non-fiction title is more likely to have resale value than a fiction title.

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.

And to this garden, A1Books has added many more flowers. Be it the actor-turned-author, Mayank Anand’s first novel – Love from the sidelines or Vinita Kamte’s book – To the last bullet on the claims and the happenings of the dreadful night of 26/11 at the hotel Taj which trapped her husband into the eternity, A1Books is geared up to make its customers happy by being the first to come up with the publications online and offering attractive discounts.

Mayank Anand, the famous Dr. Rahul from DMG (Dil Mil Gaye, Star One) was all there on the web when he decided to don the role of an author. When everyone was talking about Mayank’s debut novel, ‘Love from the sidelines’, A1Books came up with a superb deal. It offered author-signed copies and that too four weeks prior to its release. Exclusivity, a zone which A1Books enjoys to be in, soon grabbed the attention and orders poured in. Small screen star was soon a big hit as an author too.

In a country where literature has always remained a medium for spreading opinions, raising a voice and grabbing attention, Vinita Kamte, wife of Late Ashok Kamte, the brave and daring IPS offices who lost his life in the Taj Terror Attack, took the decision to write a book giving an account of the exact happenings of the fateful night. Her claims regarding immediate senior officials feigning ignorance and delayed medical aid has all been penned down in the book, ‘To the last bullet’. Again, A1Books makes the book exclusively available at its store for all its customers.
